🌼 Before Your Session

You don’t need to prepare anything complicated at home.
Your role is simply to guide the group through the morning and keep things calm, warm, and engaging.

As Session Leader, you will:

  • Welcome families as they arrive
  • Lead mat time
  • Introduce the theme of the day
  • Read the storybook
  • Set up 2–3 simple table activities
  • Support transitions throughout the session

Parents attending will help their own children and assist with routines.

✂️ Preparing Activities at Home

Some sessions include a simple craft or activity that needs a little preparation before the day — such as printing templates, cutting shapes, or gathering small materials. This preparation is always optional, and you can choose activities that suit your time and comfort level.

Examples of light prep you might do at home:

  • Printing a themed craft template
  • Cutting out shapes for a collage
  • Pre‑cutting paper strips or circles
  • Gathering items like googly eyes, pom‑poms, or stickers
  • Preparing a sample craft to show the children

🐠 Example: Ocean Fish Paper Plate Craft

This is a great example of a theme‑based activity that needs a little prep at home.

Theme: Ocean Creatures – “Ocean Fish Paper Plate Craft” (image shows a paper plate fish with cut‑out fins and decorations)

This type of activity usually requires:

  • Printing or drawing fin shapes
  • Cutting out pieces
  • Bringing a paper plate
  • Optional: googly eyes, markers, glue, sequins

Keep it simple — children enjoy the process more than the final product.

🎨 Choose a Theme

Each session has a simple theme to guide your songs, book, and activities.
Choose something familiar and fun — children love repetition and clear ideas.

Popular themes include:

  • Colours
  • Shapes
  • Animals
  • Weather
  • Seasons
  • Transport
  • Farm
  • Bugs & Insects
  • Under the Sea

Your theme helps you choose:

  • A storybook
  • A few songs or rhymes
  • Simple table activities

📚 Mat Time (9:00–9:25 AM)

Mat time brings everyone together and sets the tone for the morning.

You will lead:

  • Hello Song: “Hello, hello, and how are you?”
  • Name Song: “Hello, my name is…”
  • A short introduction to the theme
  • A song, rhyme, or movement activity
  • Flashcards (numbers 1–5, colours, or shapes)
  • A theme‑based storybook

Parents sit with their children and help them participate.

🌳 Outdoor Play (9:40–10:00 AM)

Children enjoy free play in the Kindy & Pre‑Primary playground. This is a relaxed time for families to chat and connect.

One parent volunteers to return to the classroom to cut fruit.

🍎 Fruit Time (10:10–10:20 AM)

Children sit together for morning tea.
This is a lovely moment to practise manners, sharing, and independence.

✂️ Table Activities (10:25–10:55 AM)

Choose 2–3 simple, hands‑on activities that match your theme. These should be open‑ended and easy for parents to support.

Examples:

  • Playdough with cutters
  • Colour sorting
  • Collage or gluing
  • Matching cards
  • Threading
  • Simple craft
  • Sensory trays

Families move through the activities at their own pace — the focus is fun, exploration, and connection.

🐣 Goodbye Time (10:55–11:00 AM)

Invite everyone to pack away together and return to the mat.
End with a warm goodbye and a simple song if you wish.
